  3. Those of you who have seen the Cupcake zipping through Harlem, nestled comfortably on the back of Jack's bicycle, need to know that Jack did some deep thinking about objects on the sub atomic level. Ironically without even really trying he has fueled some of the star stuff in us. Cupcake makes people smile. Why is that important and how is it related to our "inner stuff of stars"? It is well documented that our human bodies release serotonin, endorphins and natural pain killers when we smile. We cannot touch the process which generates smiles but we know that the visual stimuli of Cupcake creates a reaction within the human chemical makeup of the viewer that generates a smile. Smiling causes a reduction in blood pressure and is an assistant to the workings of our immune systems as well.

Recently "Cupcake" became a part of the Perspectives Show at Workspace Harlem, where Jack Cesareo's studio is located. Jack built a motorized addition to Cupcake's topping to show us a snapshot of the "inner workings" in all things in a fun way. At first glance it may appear to be just a fun kinetic sculpture but, in this show Cupcake is a Quantum Cupcake, displaying physics and again bringing the message that we are made of star stuff. This time Cupcake is displaying movement via some very fun objects including Sponge Bob Square Pants and friends. The objects attached to cupcake are moving in the way protons and neutrons would move if we could see them. For those of you who have seen the films Mindwalk or What the Bleep, you know that both films mention that solid objects are a mystery to science since their atoms are moving all the time and what we perceive as dimension or solid is our perception on this physical plane. At the sub atomic level...well, there is a party going on!! Everything in the universe is in motion even though we cannot necessarily see the inner workings of ourselves or objects.

According to Jack, a native of Mt. Vernon, he did not start life out curious and willing to learn. He went to his first day of school kicking and screaming all the way. He even bolted quietly out of the school, only to be discovered in his grandfather's tomato garden looking for a place to hide. He was of course caught and returned to school the next day; an interesting back story for someone who as an adult is fascinated with the cosmos and quite the deep thinker. He just happens to have a fun loving spirit and is able to reflect that duality in his serious to fun range of works. The Cupcake has taken on a personality of its own now and referred to as just "Cupcake" by many - like a first name. Jack and Cupcake have embarked on a journey throughout NYC and the resulting photo journal really gives Cupcake a personality. Cupcake's out there viewing the many landmarks and the city at large. Cupcake now has it's own blogspot, and the photo journal is affectionately known as The Cupcake Chronicles. If you see the Cupcake Man zipping through Harlem or your town, flash your sub atomic starlight and - SMILE !! its good for you and happily contagious!! Cupcake was on exhibition at Workspace Harlem in 2010. 2340 5th Avenue btwn 141st and 142nd Streets.
